Parent & Child

The Parent and Child programs are for parents with their children ages one through three.

Join us one morning a week (Mondays through Fridays) from 9:30 to 11:30 am in a beautiful setting which encourages free, creative play with toys made of natural materials. Enjoy a nutritious, homemade snack, learn to craft simple toys for your child, and discuss a healthy start for your  family.

Our morning ends with a circle of songs, rhymes, stories, and the opportunity to play in a natural outdoor space.

The rhythm of the morning is as follows:

9:30 to 10:30 – Arrival
- Free play time for children
- A craft or work experience for parents
- A small ‘quieting story’ if necessary

10:30 – 10:40 – Tidy up time (“We are sturdy little gnomes” song)

10:40 – Snack time (“Blessings on the blossoms”)
- Discussion opportunities with parents

11:00 – Tidy up the table

11:05 – Circle
The circle includes rhymes and songs both standing (walking, hopping, twirling, etc) and sitting (finger games, clapping, etc).  The songs are seasonal with home and garden themes – there is continuity each week and new ones are added regularly.

11:15 – Story
The story is seasonal with a home and garden theme – very simple – often based on a timeless folktale.  The story is told for 3 or 4 weeks.
Finish with “We’ll dance with the flowers…”

11: 20ish – Tidy Again
- Outdoor play (optional)

A Brief History

Mulberry Waldorf School began as a Waldorf Initiative playgroup in 1993. In 1995, we were incorporated as a not-for-profit charitable organization, and in 1996 we moved to the former Glenburnie West School. A few years later, in 1999, we arranged to lease our current home - the former St. John’s Catholic School on Markland Street in downtown Kingston. Over the next 7 years, we grew and stabilized our pedagogical and administrative foundations and being downtown provided us the ability to expand enrolment as well as be part of a lively and culturally-supportive neighbourhood. Our lead class graduated in 2008 and in the same year, the school attained Developing School Status within AWSNA. After a five-year search to find a permanent home, the school negotiated the purchase of our present school building in 2009. Our present goals include Depaving our Yard, and expanding the Early Childhood Program to feed our Grade School.
